filled with the spirit of Christmas and America

Tonight, I was able to attend the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas concert with my sisters. I was fully expecting it to be a wonderful performance, because it's them and also I have been almost every single year since I was 11 or 12. The guest stars are Alfie Boe and Tom Brokaw. So Alfie sang for the Queen and is an amazing theatre person, and everyone knows Tom Brokaw. If you don't, I'm slightly disappointed.

Anyone who really really knows me, knows that I love my news people and I having a hard time letting go, so seeing Tom Brokaw was a big deal. The minute he walked out, I started sobbing.(I never cry at stuff like this.) It's amazing how powerful someone can be when they speak. He told the story of the chocolate pilot who during WWII sent down hankie parachutes with candy attached for the little kids in Berlin.

As Tom Brokaw told the story, a white sheet fell from the ceiling and the original news footage was projected on the sheet. Then from the ceiling comes snow and fog. After it started snowing, there were airplane sound affects and down floated hankies with candy attached into the audience. By this time, I was sobbing, covered with the chills and just when I thought I was done, the white sheet dropped and there stood Gail Halvorsen; the real, famous chocolate pilot. He bore his testimony of the Christmas spirit, and Jesus Christ being the ultimate example of faith and hope. I have never felt the spirit so strongly. The funny thing is, is that in my heart, the only thing I could think of was, "This is America!"

To top it all off, it was an instant standing ovation and everyone was in complete awe. Alfie Boe was in the London production of Les Mis and he sang, Bring Him Home. The filled conference center was silent and he was absolutely incredible. He went from being himself to the character in about 30 seconds.

So all in all, I can't believe I was there with the real Uncle Wiggly Wings and Tom Brokaw with Alfie Boe. Tomorrow night, I am waiting in line to tell Tom Brokaw that he is an American icon and that I admire his work and love of journalism. Cheers! Sorry for the novel of a post, but I was literally drenched in the spirit and I needed to share.

love, Maddie Violet

Ah! I get to go This Sunday. I am so excited!! Alphie Boe is kind of one of my all time favorite Singers. I may die when I hear him sing "Bring Him Home".
